  1. Overview and Rationale
  2. The International Collaboration Workshop will be a special feature of the ICMI’2026 conference, hosted by King Faisal University (KFU) in Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia, on April 9–10, 2026. This initiative reflects our commitment not only to technical excellence but also to building sustainable academic bridges between institutions, researchers, and regions.

As the global research landscape continues to evolve, international partnerships have become essential for high-impact research, joint innovation, and meaningful knowledge exchange. This workshop aims to create a dynamic and interactive space where researchers, deans, and research directors from different countries and institutions can explore common areas of interest, identify potential synergies, and lay the groundwork for long-term collaboration.

  3. Objectives of the Workshop
    • Promote international research networking among participants of ICMI’2026 and invited global universities
    • Identify shared research interests in machine intelligence, computing, and interdisciplinary applications (e.g., AI inhealthcare, smart agriculture, cybersecurity)
    • Discuss models for collaboration, including joint research projects, Ph.D. co-supervision, dual-degree programs, and staff exchange
    • Facilitate bilateral and multilateral agreements or memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between KFU and participating institutions
    • Encourage inclusive participation from researchers in underrepresented regions and enhance the visibility of emerging research centers

  4. Format and Structure
  5. The workshop will be held as a half-day to full-day event, structured as follows:

    - Opening Remarks

Welcome by KFU leadership and ICMI’2026 chairs, highlighting the strategic vision of international collaboration in Saudi academia (aligned with Vision 2030).

    - Keynote Session

A global expert in international academic collaboration or research strategy (e.g., from a top university or a global organization) will deliver insights into successful models and impact stories.

    - Panel Discussions

    Topics may include:

    • Building sustainable research networks
    • Overcoming administrative, cultural, and funding challenges
    • Creating shared Ph.D. and postdoctoral opportunities
    • Role of AI and computing in solving global challenges collaboratively

    - Interactive Roundtables

Small, topic-specific group discussions that connect researchers with similar interests to explore tangible ideas (e.g., co-authored proposals, joint labs).

    - Collaboration Matchmaking

A structured networking session where institutions or research groups can briefly present their expertise and explore partnerships.

    - Outcome & Follow-Up Session

Identify concrete next steps such as drafting joint proposals, initiating MoUs, or setting up a follow-up online meeting

  6. Expected Impact
  7. This workshop aims to plant seeds for long-term, impactful collaboration between KFU and strong international universities. By aligning institutional strengths and research priorities, the workshop will help:

    • Initiate joint research projects eligible for international grants (e.g., EU Horizon, NSF, GCC funding)
    • Establish academic exchange and mobility programs for faculty and students
    • Support the creation of joint publications shared research infrastructure
    • Strengthen the international visibility of KFU and Saudi research excellence
    • Contribute to the strategic objectives of Vision 2030 in knowledge economy and global partnerships

  8. Target Participants
    • Faculty and researchers a ending ICMI’2026
    • Invited representatives from internationally recognized universities and research centers
    • Research directors, graduate program leaders, and innovation office delegates
    • Government and funding agency observers (optional)

  9. Conclusion
  10. The International Collaboration Workshop is a meaningful opportunity to translate academic dialogue into real partnerships. Held at the heart of ICMI’2026, it will complement the technical program with a vision for global connection, shared research advancement, and collective academic growth.

We believe this initiative will not only enrich the conference experience but also lay down a lasting foundation for international cooperation in computing and machine intelligence.
